PayPerPost Sucks! Well More Like ‘Out to Lunch’
For those of you who haven't heard of PayPerPost (PPP) they run a service that connects bloggers and advertisers. Advertisers pay a fee to a have a certain 'level' of blogger post/review/comment on their web site/product. Seems like a good idea? On the surface it is, and if you have loads of money in your advertising budget this is a good way to get some one way links quick and easy. Here are some things that have me puzzled though.
1. When submitting a new blog for consideration I was rejected for the following reason, and I quote:
Unfortunately, we cannot accept your blog at this time because of its format. The entire posts must be visible on the page with the posts themselves as well as the main page of your blog. Because your blog is truncating posts on the main pages, much of the posts are cut off. Please change the format to show the posts in their entirety, and then resubmit your blog.
What? PPP is FORCING bloggers to IGNORE common sense guidelines for duplicate content control in blogs? Is that not contrary to the purpose of their service, offering high quality blogs for promotion? Why would they stipulate I need to change my blogging structure that ends up hurting my SERP position and overall blog trust factor? The quality of PPP bloggers who change from excerpt summary to full post will in fact degrade their blog due to duplicate content issues. Great strategy PPP.
I'm also very disappointed with the half dozen or so campaigns I've run. PPP charges a fee for EACH successful post to ensure criteria advertisers stipulate are being met by participating bloggers. Problem is, more often than not this criteria is being overlooked. Sure I point out the facts and they refund some money, but if I'm paying for a review service, why on earth can't they review properly. REJECT poor blogs; the review system needs to be more stringent in my opinion.
Although I'm pretty hard on PPP, so far they are one of the most efficient web sites to connect advertisers and bloggers. Of course, I may have missed something else out there in radio land....
