Become a Leader in Your Industry


The books is a short easy read and packs a clear punch about how you, in a firm, business, community, group, or ‘tribe’ as Godin puts it, can become an influential leader who has exceptional impact on a particular target.

Marketing gurus sometimes use the term of ‘blue ocean’ to refer to the uncharted waters of target markets that are wide and vast, largely untapped, and represent a huge profitable. Godin suggests that its up to you to essentially create a community around a particular purpose, strategy, service, or product.

It’s understood that everyone wants to belong, you need to either create that ‘thing’ or join where the ‘thing ‘ is already in action. To put this in marketing, and in particular web marketing, context think of your particular industry for a minute. Do you have a hardcore group of followers around your product because of its unique brand or incredible value (usually free) offered to users (the list goes on)?

While competitors are thinking of ways to fight for a certain constrained market share, are you thinking of ways outside of the box, do you fight status quo, do you want to create lasting loyalty to your product? If so, have a read of “Tribes” if you have any hint of entrepreneurial/leadership/visionary capabilities. It’ll help put a loose framework around your crazy ideas floating around your head or business.
